A mobile home high above Funchal, with the sea behind: Rosa’s delivery

By Matheus Agueda · 3 November 2026

In short: in May 2024 Rosa bought a used three-bedroom English mobile home from London, from a distance, and in June we delivered it to her in São Gonçalo, Funchal, on the Portuguese island of Madeira. By 8 in the morning the delivery was nearly done, and the home was set down high on a hillside, on the gravel base Rosa had prepared, with the sea behind. She was Green Village’s first client in Madeira, and the island newspaper JM Madeira told her story in its edition of 20 August 2024.

Bought from a distance

Rosa saw Green Village’s first advert on social media in May 2024. She told JM Madeira that she had always liked this kind of home and that, when she saw the advert, she was still wary; after a few conversations with the team, she decided to go ahead. She chose a used three-bedroom home from London and arranged everything from a distance, by phone. She bought the home in mid-May and, in June, already had it in Madeira. “And I didn’t have to worry about anything. It was over in no time,” she told the paper (translated from Portuguese).

Before the trip

On 21 June 2024 the team got the home ready for the trip to Madeira, in a video we published on TikTok: every room cleaned, the floor vacuumed and the cupboard doors taped shut so that nothing would open on the way. The same day we published the home ready to leave for the island.

Delivery morning

“Good morning everyone, it’s 8 in the morning and we are nearly finishing Rosa’s delivery,” the team says in the video filmed on the plot. Before the home is set down, the video shows the base the client built: a gravel platform on the hillside, with scrub around it and the sea behind, in the morning light.

At 8 in the morning: the base Rosa prepared, waiting for the home.

That base was the only part the client had to take care of. “I had the plot cleared, sorted out the ground and then we laid gravel,” she told JM Madeira. The last photo of this route in the gallery shows the result: the white home high on the hillside, with the sea behind.

“Lots of cars stop here to look at the house”

Two months after the delivery, JM Madeira, the island’s daily newspaper, ran Rosa’s story on its property pages in the edition of 20 August 2024, under the headline “Muitos carros param aqui para ver a casa” (“Lots of cars stop here to look at the house”). Rosa received the paper at the kitchen table of her new home. “Lots of cars stop here to look at the house. They stop all the time. Plenty of people have knocked on my door to ask about the house. And they take photos,” she said. Still putting the finishing touches to the area around the home, she said she was happy to be in the house she had always wanted, with the sea view she had always wished for.

What stayed with the client

Green Village does not install homes: the mobile home is delivered and set down on its supports, without levelling. These always stay with the buyer:

  • the base and the levelling — here, the cleared plot and the gravel base Rosa prepared;
  • the water, waste, gas and electricity connections;
  • any licences the municipality requires for the plot.

What this delivery teaches

  1. A mobile home can be bought from a distance. Rosa arranged everything with the team by phone; what stayed with her was the plot and the base.
  2. The base is ready before the home arrives. Rosa had the plot cleared and gravel laid on the hillside before delivery.
  3. A hillside can take a mobile home. What matters is having the home’s spot prepared and the access to the plot checked before the day.
  4. In Madeira, the trip to the island is part of the delivery. The home was prepared for the trip and reached the island before the last leg to the plot; all the transport is organised by Mobile Home Logistic and is in the price.
  5. Know what warranty the home has. A used home like this one carries an 18-month legal guarantee, with no commercial warranty; a new home has the 3-year legal guarantee and a 10-year commercial warranty on the structure and against water ingress.

Other deliveries

In April 2024, Zé Pedro’s 2002 Atlas reached Viade de Baixo, in Montalegre, two English homes reached Ovar, for Alexandra and Rafael and a home chosen on video reached Almargem do Bispo, in Sintra, for Luiz. On the island, in November 2024, a 2-bedroom Atlas reached a hard-to-reach plot in Camacha. Delivered prices on the island, and what to know before buying, are in the guide to mobile homes in Madeira. Photos of this home and of other deliveries, from origin to plot, are in the gallery.
