Used mobile homes: are they worth it?
A used mobile home usually costs less than a new one of the same type: in the Green Village catalogue, used units start from £6,042. The saving only pays off if the unit is in good condition — the brand, the year and above all the upkeep matter more than the age.
For the full guide to the second-hand market, see buying a used mobile home.

Advantages of buying used
- Price: usually lower than a new unit of the same type; compare the delivered price on each listing.
- A specific unit: you see the actual unit you are buying, with photos and details on the listing, and the delivery date is confirmed in writing.
- Known track record: models with years of use behind them, whose behaviour is already known.
- Sustainability: reusing a unit avoids building another one.
What to inspect before buying
Chassis and structure
The steel chassis is the most critical element. Look for:
- Corrosion: surface rust is normal; perforation is a reason to walk away
- Deformation: a deformed chassis indicates serious structural damage
- Galvanisation: a galvanised (shiny) chassis resists corrosion better than one that is only painted
Damp and leaks
One of the main problems with mobile homes. Check for:
- Stains on walls and ceilings — especially in corners and around windows
- Musty smell — a reliable sign of hidden damp
- Soft floor — a sign of rot in the substructure
- Moisture meter reading — high readings, especially around windows and in corners, need investigation
Insulation
- BS 3632 standard — for permanent, year-round living; advisable in colder climates
- EN 1647 standard — for seasonal use; can be enough in mild climates such as the Algarve and southern Spain
- Windows: double glazing is essential; single glazing points to a very old model
Services
- Gas: date of the last inspection certificate (Gas Safe in the UK)
- Electrics: consumer unit in good condition, modern circuit breakers, no exposed wiring
- Plumbing: run every tap, check the pressure and look for leaks
How much does a used mobile home cost?
The price depends on age, condition, brand, size (single or twin) and the construction standard. Each listing in the used mobile homes catalogue shows the delivered price for your destination — transport and delivery to your plot included, VAT shown separately — and the mobile home prices page brings every unit in stock together.
Where to find a reliable used mobile home
The Green Village catalogue brings together used units from several brands. Each listing shows real photos, the unit's details and the final delivered price. Ask in writing for anything the listing does not show — history, the park it comes from, maintenance; units still in their country of origin can be viewed by video call before you commit to anything.
Transport is organised by Mobile Home Logistic, the partner logistics company of the same group, insured at 100 % of the unit's value and included in the delivered price. Green Village sets the home down on its supports; levelling and the connections are the owner's responsibility.
Used units are sold in the condition described in the contract, with no Green Village commercial warranty; the legal guarantee of conformity still applies.
When NOT to buy used
- If you plan permanent living in a cold area and the unit is not BS 3632
- If the chassis is corroded beyond a repair that makes sense
- If there is widespread damp in the walls and the floor
- If the written repair quote, added to the delivered price, comes close to the delivered price of an equivalent new unit
