Mobile Home Market in Europe 2026: Data by Country

By Matheus Agueda · 10 September 2026

The European mobile home market in numbers

Most mobile homes in Europe sit on campsites and holiday parks. That makes official campsite statistics the best public measure of the market's size — and the only data that can be compared across countries. Below are the latest figures from each national statistics office, with the source for every number.

Europe in 2024: 24,857 campsites

According to Eurostat, the European Union had 24,857 camping grounds and caravan parks in 2024, with 8.5 million bed-places and 409 million nights spent. These parks account for 13.5% of all nights spent in tourist accommodation in the EU.

France8,0142,796,232147,849,448−0.1%

Netherlands2,662681,21626,189,767−6.8%
Portugal269193,2377,200,893+0.2%

France holds about a third of the EU's parks and 36% of the segment's nights. The number of parks in the EU rose 1.3% on 2023 while bed-places stayed almost flat (+0.1%): a large, stable installed base that feeds a steady supply of used units.

France: 283,500 pitches with a mobile home or chalet

INSEE counted 6,678 campsites and 639,700 pitches in the 2025 season (monthly average, April–September). Of those, 283,500 are "emplacements équipés" — pitches with a mobile home, chalet or bungalow installed — across 5,383 parks. INSEE covers metropolitan France only and uses the seasonal average, which is why its figures differ from Eurostat's.

Spain: 1,270 open campsites in August

INE estimated 1,270 open campsites in August 2025, with 230,675 pitches and authorised capacity for 766,569 people. In 2025, campsite nights rose 1.4% and made up 34% of all non-hotel nights in Spain.

Italy: the slowest-growing non-hotel segment

According to ISTAT, in 2024 Italy's "campeggi e villaggi turistici" grew 3.4% in number of establishments and 2.2% in beds on 2023 — the most modest growth among non-hotel accommodation types. Eurostat records 2,380 establishments and 1.12 million bed-places.

Netherlands: 2,682 campsites

CBS counted 2,682 campsites in July 2026 (provisional data), 2,663 of them open, with 653,403 sleeping places. There are also 1,838 holiday-home parks ("huisjesterreinen") with 411,533 sleeping places — the segment where chalets and lodges are installed. CBS only counts campsites with at least four tourist pitches. In 2024, nights spent at Dutch campsites fell 6.8% (Eurostat).

Portugal: 257 campsites

Portugal had 257 campsites in 2025 with capacity for 192,401 campers (Turismo de Portugal, published by PORDATA), against 256 in 2024 and 258 in 2023. Next to France's 8,014 parks, the Portuguese market is small and stable — and that difference in scale is what makes importing units from northern Europe worthwhile.

United Kingdom (England)

The ONS does not publish caravan-park statistics. The available figures come from the industry and from a government study:

  • 4,754 holiday parks and campsites in England in 2023, with 320,901 pitches, including 151,163 owner-occupied holiday caravans (UKCCA, industry body).
  • 1,832 residential park home sites and 100,406 park home addresses in England (research commissioned by the UK Government, DLUHC).

What these numbers mean for buyers

  • Supply sits in the north and centre: France, Italy and the Netherlands add up to more than 13,000 parks; Portugal has 269 (Eurostat). Used mobile homes arriving in Portugal mostly come from these larger markets and from the UK.
  • Spain has the fastest-growing tourist demand: campsite nights rose 4.3% in 2024 (Eurostat) and another 1.4% in 2025 (INE).
  • Price depends on age, size and destination. Current ranges are in How much does a mobile home cost and Mobile home prices in Europe. In the Green Village catalogue, the price shown for the chosen destination already includes transport.
